Dolomites Van Life Guide: Sella Pass, Part 2

Welcome back, my friends! I’m thrilled to bring you the second post of our Dolomites on Wheels series. In case you’re new here, please go ahead and read first part here. And now, fasten your seatbelts as we dive into the Sella Pass parking area!

Continuing our journey from Gardena Pass, we arrive at the stunning Sella Pass after a short 20-minute drive. However, it’s important to note that the parking situation here might not suit everyone’s taste. Parking around Sella Pass is all on lay-bys and our selected spot is the biggest by far, but also the busiest.  Situated at the highest point of the pass, a whooping 2240m high, you’ll be treated to incredible valley views. But be prepared for some traffic and noise during the day. This spot is not for you if you’re seeking a few relaxing days from the van. However, if you’re eager to explore and immerse yourself in adventure, it serves as an excellent base. Nights are really quiet, with little traffic after dark. Additionally, you’ll have access to a reliable 5G signal, nearby bins, and a hotel where you can enjoy refreshing drinks and delicious food.

Things to Do: Are you ready for an adrenaline rush? Sella Pass offers exciting opportunities for climbers. There is a well known all-day Via Ferrata just a stone’s throw away from the parking area. And if you’re an experienced climber, don’t miss out on the multi-pitch climbing experience at the iconic Sella Towers or head to the renowned sport climbing crag known as City of Rocks, just a short 15-minute walk away. For those who prefer less vertical challenges, hiking around the area is a must. One trail that stands out is the Sassolungo Loop hike, which promises a full-day mission rewarded with breathtaking scenery and a chance to refuel at the refuge on your descent. While there are numerous other hiking options, if you can only choose one, the Sassolungo Loop comes highly recommended.

Why Choose Sella Pass: Sella Pass offers a diverse range of activities for all preferences, and the best part is that it’s often less crowded compared to other popular spots. This makes it an excellent choice for a couple of days during the peak season. However, be mindful that even in early June, the weather can still be chilly, so remember to pack your layers if you’re visiting early in the season.

With its breathtaking scenery, climbing opportunities, and awesome hikes, Sella Pass has something to offer everyone. Whether you’re seeking adventure or a nice walk, this picturesque spot won’t disappoint. Stay tuned for more incredible Dolomites destinations in our ongoing series, and don’t forget to check out my YouTube for full episode here.

Until next time, happy exploring!
