After a rainy start of 2022, we have decided to spend long a weekend in the Lake District. Our usual weekends involve lots of climbing and hiking and we often try to cramp too much in 2 days. So for a change, we decided to have a relaxing weekend with some nice walks and spend evenings in the hot tub.
National Trust – Tarn Hows – Day One
Our first-day walk was short and sweet. It was a Friday morning and we were pretty much the only people out there. Tarn Hows has many walks to offer, most of them are a couple of hours long and feature woodland areas as well as a beautiful lake. I would say this is a must-see place if you are in the area and one of the best walks in the Lakes.

Coniston Water Lake – day two
On our second day, we decided to stop by Coniston Water Lake, and walk back to Tarn Hows from there. It was 2 hours walk and well worth the time.

Grizedale Forest – Day three
On our final day, we did a 10 miles ancient woodland walk in Grizedale Forest. It’s a great walk with stunning views and there are lots of variations to make it as short or as long as you like.

Dog friendly pubs and cafes
We had a quick coffee break at Herdwicks Cafe in Coniston. Not only its dog-friendly but they also were very quick to offer beds for dogs. Our pooches enjoyed the view while we relaxed and had a caffeine fix before heading back to our cabin.
During our stay, we have visited several different pubs, and every single one was dog friendly so there is no issue finding a place for a drink and food while hiking with your pooch.

Dog Friendly Cabin
We stayed just outside of Coniston in the heart of Lakes District and found a super cosy and dog-friendly cabin with a hot tub, firepit & BBQ. It is hosted by Torver Luxury Escapes on Airbnb. I have to admit, the listing doesn’t do it justice and it was so much better than what we expected. You get a relatively big fenced outdoor space for dogs to run around safely and enough privacy for the hot tub. Inside the cabin, you get a fireplace, TV, all kitchen essentials, a bathroom and most importantly heated floor. The cabin was tiny, but we loved it and it was perfect for us.
If you were to stay here, I would highly recommend purchasing some wood from your local petrol station as it will be much cheaper than buying locally here. We stayed here for two nights, and while we didn’t use the fire pit, we used a hot tub both nights and used neatly five bags of logs. To fill up and warm up the hot tub on the first night took us nearly 5 hours and on the second day, it heated in over an hour.
By the time our hot tub was ready, it was pitch black outside, around 8 – 9 pm. The sky was super clear and we could see the moon and stars very clearly. While there were other cabins around, we couldn’t hear anyone, and it felt like we were the only people there. My husband Tomas and I were stunned by how peaceful it was.

As always, Lake District did not disappoint. We had a super relaxing weekend while still vising some beautiful new places. Sometimes, having two dogs can be complicated when planning a weekend away but Lake District is always so simple.
