2020 has been a challenging year for many of us, but I have never felt more focused and happier. So what’s changed? What helped me to get through 2020 feeling so positive and energised?
Two words – Accountability Partners 🙌
The concept of accountability partners is simple and yet brilliant at the same time. The idea is to have someone other than yourself who knows what you need to do or what you want to achieve. They would be willing to hold you accountable for achieving your objectives and hold regular catch up meetings to give you advice and discuss your progress. It will give you a greater incentive to just go out and do it to avoid having to awkwardly explain why you didn’t to another person. It can help you to stay focused on achieving your goals. Who knows, you may already have an accountability partner in your life without realising it!
However, if you don’t have one yet, you need to consider getting one! I now have 3 accountability partners for different parts of my life and truly believe that it can support you in achieving your goals and being the best version of yourself.
During the lockdown, I have started a weekly book club with one of my best friends. We hold each other accountable for reading every day or at least on most days. We choose educational books and have a weekly zoom call to see where we are and discuss the books we read. Our book discussions are great and often lead to conversations about having a better emotional balance and how we can support each other. It helped me to get into a habit of reading a lot more to a point where I can’t fall asleep without reading a few chapters. I have read more books in the last 6 months than in the last 15 years.
I am also a part of an amazing digital marketing platform called ‘Grow & Glow’. If you are looking to learn more about digital marketing, then it is a superb educational and coaching platform with access to a wonderful community of female entrepreneurs. As a bonus, it hooked me up with my personal accountability partner to ensure that we are both applying everything we have learned. Coaching and holding each other accountable to apply lessons in practice is fantastic, and it is helping me grow and stay on track with my goals.
My husband Tomas has been my accountability partner for over a decade now without even me realising. Even though I mourn a lot, I am grateful for his persistence. Anything from early morning gym sessions, going for runs to rock climbing and helping me to push my limits.
Oh, and for a brief few weeks, I had a wonderful accountability partner for a 5 am club. Whilst I no longer need to get up this early, this is still a great example of an area in your life which you want to improve but have no determination to do so. You just need to find someone who is struggling with the same issue and work on it together! You can do whatever you put your mind to it!
So here you go, I have three accountability partners! One to keep me emotionally resilient, one to keep me fit and healthy and one to help me learn and grow. If you know me, you know that I am the happiest I have ever been. I love discipline, I love coaching others, and I love being coached.
